Nourishing the Spirit, Together:
A Campaign for Gratitude Hall

Gratitude Hall has long been a sacred gathering place - a space where meals are more than nourishment, and conversation is more than words. It is here that healing begins in the warmth of a shared meal, the quiet of reflection, and the power of connection. Now, as we embark on a transformative renovation of our kitchen and dining spaces, we invite you to be part of something deeper: The nourishment of the soul.

This capital campaign is more than a building project. It is an invitation to help create a space where gratitude is not only spoken, but lived—through every meal prepared, every chair filled, and every hand extended. Whether your gift is large or modest, your generosity is a thread in the fabric of something timeless and healing.

Letter from Christopher Lawrence,

Director of Dining Services at Alina Lodge

My name is Christopher Lawrence, and I have the privilege of serving as the Director of Dining Services at both Alina Lodge and High Watch Recovery Center. Each day, we are dedicated to providing healthy, nourishing meals to our patients, many of whom are on the path to recovery from substance dependence.

As a former guest of High Watch, I've had the unique experience of being on the receiving end of our dining services. The impact of that experience was profound and has shaped the way I now oversee the kitchens I manage. When I first arrived for treatment, I was in one of the darkest periods of my life. The meals and the environment of the dining hall became a source of comfort and hope for me—a moment of peace I could look forward to each day. Those meals, shared with others in recovery, helped inspire me to stay in treatment and ultimately provided a foundation for creating my own "sober memories."

Many of us who seek treatment come from a past filled with turmoil, often with few positive experiences. For me, the creation of a "sober memory" in that dining hall—a safe and supportive environment where I could reflect—was a pivotal part of my journey to recovery. It gave me hope during the most difficult times, and it is this same sense of hope that I now strive to bring to our guests each day.

At High Watch, we aim to replicate these "sober memories" for each person we serve. We recognize that the kitchen is not just a place to provide nourishment; it is an integral part of the larger community that fosters recovery. Our team, which includes individuals in recovery themselves, works daily to create a warm, welcoming space where our guests can feel a sense of belonging—where they are reminded that they are not alone on their journey.

We want to extend this ability to Alina Lodge, where we are committed to creating the same sense of hope and community. Working closely with our Executive Chef, Greg Camp, at Alina Lodge, I've seen firsthand the daily struggles caused by outdated kitchen equipment. The kitchen's original design was intended for a different purpose, and it no longer meets the demands or vision we have for the future. This has limited our ability to provide the same meaningful dining experiences that we know are critical to our guests' healing.

However, to continue this mission and serve our guests more effectively, our kitchen facilities need a significant upgrade. With this letter, I am humbly asking for your support. A modernized kitchen would allow us to prepare meals more efficiently, offer a wider variety of nutritious options, and continue creating meaningful dining experiences that contribute to our guests' overall healing.

Your philanthropic donation would make a tangible difference in the lives of those we serve. I truly believe that even something as simple as a meal, prepared with care in a supportive environment, can play a crucial role in someone's recovery.

Thank you for considering this opportunity to partner with us in transforming lives through the power of community and shared meals.

With gratitude,

Christopher Lawrence
